Geoge St. Pierre was looking for revenge in the rematch with Matt Hughes, and he got it, by dominating every second of the fight, and winning by knockout when the referee had to step in to stop futher damage to Matt Hughes in the second round. Now two international fighters hold the titles; Anderson Silva and George St. Pierre. In other results, Tim Sylvia retains his UFC heavyweight title by UD over Jeff Monson.
Ken Shamrock to hold open tryouts for 2007 Lions Team

The International Fight League and head coach of the new Nevada-based Lions team, MMA legend Ken Shamrock, today announced that the team will hold an open tryout for elite MMA hopefuls at Renos premiere sports facility, The Stadium Sport and Fitness Club, located at 9393 Gateway in Reno, Nev., at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29. Shamrocks Lions will have eight team members, five of whom will be selected to compete per event, when the first IFL season opens in late January. The tryout is open to all experienced professional fighters. The full 11-date IFL season will also be announced during that week. Source
Carlos Newton returns for a super fight rematch with Renzo Gracie

When you think of some of the pioneer's of mma, Carlos Newton is a name that is easily recognized. Starting his professional mma career in 1996, Newton's career has spanned a decade and he has faced some of the all time best fighters including Sakuraba, Henderson, Miletich, Hughes, A. Silva, and Renzo Gracie. Bushido 1 is when Renzo and Carlos first crossed path, and the result was a split decision victory for Carlos.
"Renzo has a good ground game, and his stand up has improved. I know he is a very crafty guy, and I have to be very careful, and push the pace a bit more", Carlos said. "I started training a while ago", Carlos added regarding his preparations for his fight with Renzo Gracie. Read more
Showtime to air MMA events

A press release by showtime revealed that they will partner with Pro Elite Inc., to air mma events in 2007. Showtime is looking to pick up on the success of the Ultimate Fighting Championships, especially their recent success in pulling impressive ppv numbers. Gary Shaw, who has been in the boxing business for years, will work with Showtime. BJ Penn will also be working on the promotion.
Werdum Upsets A. Emelianenko at 2 hot 2 handle

In a surprising bout, Werdum was able to easily outclass, and submit Alexander Emelianenko in just the first round. Emelianenko, heavily favored after his win over Sergei Kharitanov, once again finds himself back in the bottom of the heavyweight picture after this loss.
In other results of major bouts, James Thompson was submitted by Jon Olav Einemo in the first round by armbar submission. James Thompson, a heavyweight fighter out of England, and a Pride FC competitor, also falls out of the heavyweight picture with this loss. Gilbert Yvel made his presence felt with a first round knockout of Rodney Faverus.
Paulo Filho Interview regarding Bushido GP

Back in Brazil, Pride Bushido GP' semifinalist Paulo Filho talked with MMA365.com crew about the injure which took him out from the gp finals, held in Japan, on November 5th. Due to a knee ligament injure during the fight with Japanese Kazuo Misaki, Brazilian Top team's black belt wasn't able to continue in the tournament after submitting the Japanese fighter with an arm-lock. So, instead of fighting Paulo Filho at the final, Canadian Denis Kang had Misaki as an opponent. Misaki had one of the best fights of the entire tournament and became the champion. Pride FC Welterweight Grand Prix Results

In what would end up being a surprise twist, Paulo Filho was unable to continue into the finals because of injury, after defeating Kazuo Misaki by armbar, thus advancing Misaki to the finals. Denis Kang defeated Akihiro Gono, by decision, and also advanced to the finals. Misaki and Kang met, and the result was Misaki by split decision, thus making him the 2006 Bushido Survival Welterweight GP Winner. Surprisingly, there were no knockouts the entire night, and most fights ended in decision. The other major result, was that Gomi was able to defeat Marcus Aurelio, by split decision.

PORTLAND, Ore., November 2, 2006 – The Silverbacks and Wolfpack claimed victories at tonight’s International Fight League World Team Championships before an enthusiastic IFL-record crowd of 7,632 at Memorial Coliseum. The Silverbacks, based in Quad Cities, Iowa/Ill., and coached by Pat Miletich, topped the Dragons, who train in Toronto and are coached by Carlos Netwton, by a 4-1 score. In the other semifinal, the homestanding Portland-based Wolfpack, coached by Matt Lindland, edged the Anacondas, based in Los Angeles and coached by Bas Rutten, 3-2. As a result of their victories, the Silverbacks and Wolfpack advanced to the IFL World Team Championship Final at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on Dec. 29.
In the two Superfights which followed the team competition, Mike Whitehead (Salt Lake City) registered a first-round TKO of Mark Kerr (Portland, Ore.), and Allan Goes (Rio de Janeiro) defeated Daniel Gracie (Rio de Janeiro) with a second-round TKO. Source
Hero's GP: Gesias Cavalcante interview

The best -70kg fighter in the world has a name: Gesias Cavalcante. Called as JZ by his American Top Team's mates, Gesias has performed a great job at Hero's Middleweight GP's ring, on last October 9 th. After KO'ing, in the first phases Japanese Hidetaka Monma and Hiroyuki Takaya, by way of a beautiful flying-knee, Brazilian Luta-Livre's black belt had to face the major challenge of his career: fighting two opponents in the same night: BJJ black belt Rani Yahia and Japanese Caol Uno. With a versatile game, Gesias surprised Rani and submitted him with a guillotine choke in only 20 seconds of fight. Pride middleweight champion, Wanderlei Silva showed himself to American audience Pride Real, on last October 21, in Vegas. During the Pride debut in US, The Brazilian fighter grabbed the mic and challenged the UFC champion Chuck Liddell, setting fire in the American MMA scene. "I think it would be easier to get me into the octagon to fight him than get Liddell to fight at Pride's ring," said Silva during an exclusive to MMA365.com. Besides confirming he will be in action still this semester, in Japan , Silva says he might fight at Pride US in February and makes his own plans for the future in the country. Martial Arts Xtreme helps MMA become popular in Europe

A new reality show has been causing as much noise in Europe as "The Ultimate Fighter" in the United States. Entitled Martial Arts Xtreme, the reality show has a similar system of two teams lead by two coaches to demonstrate the best of European MMA fighters. Aired by DSF channel, the show it's on every Saturday at 8:45pm ( Switzerland time) and according to Brazilian Augusto Frota, the coach of the black team, the audience has been very acceptable to the new TV show.
"I am not used to cameras, but I believe the whole crew has been doing a great job. The MMA scene has been expanded from the impact and the number of sponsors has increased in Switzerland, since the show was on," says Frota, who also works as promoter of the Vale-Tudo show Shooto Switzerland, which will feature the fifth edition on this Saturday, October 28 th, at GZ heuried Diechiweg, in Zurich. International Fight League (IFL) becomes first mma organization to award rings to annual championship team members

Five fighters and coach of year-end championship team to be provided with custom-designed rings
The International Fight League (IFL) today announced that it will become the first fight organization to award the five team members and the coach of the annual season championship team with custom-designed rings. The awarding of rings to the league champion is a time-honored tradition in American team sports. The first full 11 date IFL season will begin in the first quarter of 2007, with the schedule to be announced shortly.
“We are very excited to be able to present all members of our championship team with a custom-designed ring,” said IFL co-founder and Commissioner Kurt Otto. “The notion of playing for that championship ring is something fans and competitors in every team sport can clearly understand, and by awarding rings to our champions, it makes the IFL team concept a little clearer to the sports fan and gives each athlete something very unique in fight sports to aim for.”
The rings were originally designed by Otto, who has also developed the logos for many of the IFL teams, utilizing his graphic design background. The detail includes 10 diamonds in 10-carat gold surrounding the IFL logo in gold inlay in the center. The winning team, athlete name and championship year will be featured on each side.
